We’ll be situated in the heart of downtown at the Doubletree Hotel, walking distance from many restaurants, theaters and parks, and just a few blocks from the light rail which accesses the nearby Museum District, Houston Zoo, Rice University, and more. This recently renovated hotel has an urban boutique ambience. The meeting room area is perfectly suited to our group size, with floor to ceiling windows revealing lush treetops, and comfortable rooms with bathtubs and Doubletree’s signature Sweet Dreams beds.

The lobby lounge offers an inviting space to gather and enjoy libations, lunch or dinner, while the Trofi Restaurant offers all three meals. The rate is $119 per room, for single, double, triple or even quad occupancy. Plan to bring the family and stay through Memorial Day weekend to really enjoy all the activities of Houston, our nation’s fourth largest city.

LATE 1 p.m. Checkout for Saturday, May 24 so attendees will not have to skip the last session in order to check out.

UPDATED HOTEL INFORMATION

Those individuals planning to attend the NARA Electronic Records Workshop and/or the Wed. morning preconference workshop, may have noticed that the Doubletree Hotel has a limited number of blocked rooms available for Monday and Tuesday nights. They are quoting SSA members an inflated rate of $245/night. We have spoken with the Doubletree and the primary problem is that we are scheduled concurrently with another, much larger, conference taking place in the city. The Doubletree expects to be completely sold out for Tuesday night very soon.

If you are planning to register for the NARA workshop and/or the Wednesday morning preconference workshop, we encourage you to call the Crowne Plaza Houston-Downtown, located at 1700 Smith Street, Houston, TX 77002. Phone 713-739-8800. We have secured a rate agreement of $149/night. This rate will be available to SSA until May 18 only. The Crowne Plaza is located across the street from the Mickey Leland Federal Building - site of the NARA workshop - and SSA local arrangements will supply transportation to/from Rice on Wed. morning for the preconference workshop.
